Sand-cast oil lamps and temple bells

The workshop villages around Pilimatalawa, on the old Colombo–Kandy road, have cast brass oil lamps, temple bells and household ware by hand for generations — sand-cast or lost-wax, poured in the cool early morning and hand-filed for days afterwards to get the warm, polished colour. Every brass piece on Ceylona comes from one of these workshops, bought directly rather than through an export middleman.
