Wheel-thrown village pottery, wood-fired

Village potters around Molagoda still throw terracotta on a kick wheel and fire it in wood- or husk-fed kilns, using local clay that's naturally high in iron — which is what gives finished pieces their deep, sunset-red colour. Every wheel-thrown pot, jug or bowl on Ceylona is made this way, by a named potter, not mass-produced from a mould.
