Around Kegalle, handmade paper is pulped from elephant dung — a byproduct of the district's elephant sanctuaries — alongside temple-style painting in the traditional Kandyan idiom. Sri Lankan handmade paper and folk-art pieces on Ceylona are made and sold by the individual artists themselves, with no printing press or reproduction involved.
